Movie Review: Godzilla -1.0

Godzilla -1.0 was made to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Godzilla. This film is also the 30th live-action Godzilla film in Japan, with Takashi Yamazaki directing, writing the script, and handling all the visual effects. Takashi Yamazaki is well known in the film industry as the creator of STAND BY ME Doraemon, and Eien no 0.
Screened at 522 theaters nationwide on November 3, the film drew an audience of 640,000 viewers and grossed over 1 billion yen in 3 days. The film was the No. 1 weekend film in terms of attendance and got a blockbuster start. Godzilla-1.0 continues to reign supreme in the box office rankings for November, consistently at No. 1 so far (*November 3-19, according to Box Office News Corp.). In addition, the film is set to be released in more than 1,500 theaters in North America from December 1.
In the film, you can see the characters confront Godzilla with their strong will through their actions and passionate words. The powerful expressions and words of each character are scattered throughout the film, such as when Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) decides to board a fighter plane to try to try defeat Godzilla, and Noriko (Minami Hamabe), who shows us how people survived during that harsh era. The level of Godzilla’s CG has increased considerably compared to the past, and the audience can experience the tremendous power of the film.

ゴジラ生誕70周年を記念して製作された『GODZILLA -1.0』。この映画は日本におけるゴジラの実写映画としては30作目であり、山崎貴が監督・脚本・VFXのすべてを担当した。山崎貴は映画界では『STAND BY ME ドラえもん』や『永遠の0』の生みの親として知られている。
11月3日に全国522館で上映され、3日間で動員64万人、興行収入10億円を突破。週末動員数No.1を記録し、大ヒットスタートを切った。『GODZILLA-1.0』は11月の興行収入ランキングで、今のところ常に1位に君臨し続けている。(※11月3日〜19日、興行通信社調べ) また、12月1日からは北米1,500館以上での公開が決定している。
映画の中では、登場人物たちが強い意志を持ってゴジラに立ち向かう姿を、行動や熱い言葉を通して見ることができる。ゴジラを倒そうと戦闘機への搭乗を決意する敷島（神木隆之介）や、この過酷な時代を生きようあと語る典子（浜辺美波）など、映画の名場面や随所に各キャラクターの力強い表情や言葉が散りばめられている。ゴジラのCGのレベルは昔に比べて格段に上がっており、観客はその凄まじい迫力を体感できる。
